That is definitely more accurate. "Sequel" was poor word choice on my part. It seems to be a side-story in the same universe since those handful of characters overlap and appear to be the same age. But yeah, it didn't have any of the OS magic, the characters were a lot less interesting and the plot was super formulaic:

>uh oh, bad guy is winning, what do we do?
>better shoot him with the links cannon
>wow great idea, why didn't we do that in the first place
repeat for the next episode. The music was nowhere near as good either. It had a good OP, that's about it.

That is very true, quite often the sequels are nowhere near as good as the original but sometimes you get gems, or they're at the very least good enough. For example, take Bubblegum Crisis. Crash was a good, though perhaps not quite as good direct sequel. AD Police Files was an in-universe prequel that honestly kicks ass despite only sharing one character. The later TV reboots were meh (Crisis 2040) and downright terrible (AD Police Protect and Serve)

That's a valid point. I can think of multiple shows where direct sequels utterly failed to capture the magic of the original: The aforementioned AD Police files. ToHeart (how's that for a change of genre?), Irresponsible Captain Tylor... But other times the sequels are fantastic, every bit as good or perhaps better than the originals, like the 2nd 3x3 Eyes OVA for example. So it's a balancing act. People want more of the same or at least comparable quality as the original, and that's not always possible. At some point every show eventually "jumps the shark".>>62473118

Reflecting a bit, I will say that in some respects the Angel Links style (or as you say ADP) would maybe be my default preferred "expansion" of an IP. They get to lean on existing world building and references to some degree, but also get real creative freedom with mostly/all new characters, and it can stand or fail on its own. If it's awesome great, fans of the original can be pointed at it and it might not be the same old loved characters but it does enrich the whole universe. But on the other hand if it's mediocre or crap it doesn't hurt the original in any way either. AL was meh, but that doesn't touch my memories of OS in the slightest since it was its own thing. No making the original characters retarded in some way. So it doesn't make me mad either. I would have liked if it was awesome in its own way, but I don't mind they tried. Whereas some sequels are such garbage it kinda taints how you feel about the og.

Of course as you say a truly awesome sequel is the best of all. So I guess it's maybe "possibility of higher highs but also risk of lower lows" vs "less benefit from/to the first, but less damage potential as well" maybe if that makes any sense.>>62471799

We never see it just punch all the way through the megastructure, it's only in an afterward at the end when that surviving silicon lifeform encounters killy that he shoots a whole in the exterior and we see the "end" of the structure for the very first and only time. I mean, granted the size is probably something like out to the orbit of Mars, implication is the growth went out of control and formed a Kardashev Type II civilization level structure where most of the energy of the star is captured and most/all of dumb matter in the solar system has been or is being consumed. Still I think it only has unlimited range in theory, given an infinite energy source and infinite durability a graviton weapon would have no range limit. In practice not even Killy actually has that though.

Even so, if you actually punched a kilometer wide hole straight through the Earth, it'd "just" fill right back up again in the middle, liquid and all that. It'd be an enormous shield volcano on each side though that'd probably last thousands of years. I presume significant earth quakes etc too. Interesting question really, like, what WOULD the exact effects be? I'm not a geologist/volcanologist.

I don't remember that being implied. He seems to power it himself, first time he goes to a higher setting he does so by harvesting power out of a bunch of fallen safeguard. But it may be later he regains some sort of link to the City since he was the safeguard prototype unit.

Blame never bombards us though with massive worldbuilding wordswordswords, just lots to see and think about by implication. You could be right.
